4.8 million Tweets sent during Champions League Final night

Bayern-Munich-champions-league-2It’s very evident that Social Media is now an integral part of most major sporting events. Figures just released by UEFA for Social Media activity during last Saturday nights Champions League final illustrate just how big Social Media is in contributing to such occasions. During last year’s final, Twitter users sent just over 32,000 tweets-per-minute during the peak moments of the game, however the figures for this year’s final show that more than 117,000 tweets-per-minute were sent.

Some other statistics for last Saturday night’s Champions League Final include:

• An average of 22.5 million people in Germany watched the final.
• 4.8million Tweets were sent in 3.5 hour period on Final night.
• Top moment during the match generated 117,601 Tweets sent per minute.
