John Lewis launch 2012 Christmas commercial

The countdown to Christmas continues apace with many companies offically launching their festive season advertising campaigns during the past week. One eagerly awaited campaign is the new TV advertisement for the department store John Lewis who have built up a strong reputation over the last number of years for producing powerful and evocative Christmas commercials. Resisting the temptation to go cheap and save some money, John Lewis went ahead and created a 90 second length commercial about a lovestruck snowman. Costing £6 million to produce and shot in New Zealand the commercial, titled “The Journey” extolls the extraordinary lengths a snowman will go to in his search for the perfect Christmas gift for his loved one. Following on from previous John Lewis Christmas commercials the ad features a beautiful rendition of the Frankie Goes To Hollywood 1984 Christmas hit “The Power of Love” which is sung by Gabrielle Aplin, a relatively unknown 20yr old singer-songwriter from Bath.
